Niagara nirvana
A ‘girls getaway’

I've been going to Niagara Falls just about as long as I can remember. As kids, our parents took us there for weekend getaways -- in fact my parents, like many of their generation, honeymooned there. Later. early in our marriage, my husband, Brad, and I made annual pilgrimages to the area, staying at our favourite bed-and-breakfast in Niagara-On-The-Lake and exploring local sites and winery tours. But Niagara is an ever-changing vista and it's dangerous to ever assume that you've seen it all -- as my cousin, Sherry, and I discovered on a "girls' weekend getaway" in the area a few years ago.

Get to know Gainesville
If you don't know the name, read on

Over the years, I have enjoyed several "fam" trips to the Sunshine State. Those are trips sponsored by local tourism agencies -- in this case Visit Florida -- for journalists, to familiarize them with local attractions in the hope that they will write an article that will bring visitors. A trip to northeastern Florida, including Gainesville, was enlightening. I had visited a friend there previously but was unaware of many of this city's attractions and others nearby.

Exploring the Bruce

For the past four years we have vacationed in Tobermory and explored the Bruce Peninsula's many charms and delightful destinations. Two years ago, I decided to write about this wonderful vacationland.

Over the years, I've written about Eastern Ontario -- Leamington, Point Pelee, Windsor, Chatham -- but when Leamington was named Canada’s best place to live among communities with populations over 10,000 by
MoneySense Magazine I had yet another reason to visit and write about this region that is constantly evolving as a tourist destination.
