Team London One of the leading healthcare centres in the country
I've always known that London was a premiere healthcare centre and taken pride in the fact that it stands with the best across the country. But, doing this article for the 20th anniversary edition of Forever Young in London, I was blown away by the facts, the firsts, the research and the achievements that define this city in the healthcare realm.

Humanity’s heroes Canadian Medical Hall of Fame
Back
in 1996, Forever Young was one of the first publications to promote the
new Canadian Medical Hall of Fame, based on London, Ont. So it was a natural
for the editorial promoting that paper's 20th anniversary of the London
edition of the paper, in January 2009. And, in looking into the
evolution of the Hall, I found out about the Discovery Days for
secondary school students looking to pursue a career in health care and
realized this was a natural for Healthcare Careers Express, which I
edit for Metroland Media Group. Hence an article on the Discovery Days highlighting this year's events

'Life Isn't Fair' Living with diabetesWe
are always looking for ways to discuss diabetes in Forever Young,
particularly in November which is Diabetes Awareness Month. This year,
with personal knowledge of the challenges, as my husband, Brad, suffers
from Type 2 Diabetes, and after talking with my cousin, Ted Herbert,
who also deals with that challenge, I decided to write about living
with the condition day-to-day. I applaud my cousin, Ted, for his condor
and willingness to be "interviewed" about this topic and admit that I
learned quite a bit from talking with people who help patients on a
daily baisis.

When
I read in the local paper about a novel interdisciplinary research
team, headed by my sister's own ophthalmologist, looking into
treatments for the many vision ailments that plague aging baby boomers,
I knew Forever Young readers would be intrigued and it would be a
perfect fit for the health section. Which it was. And when I talked
with Dr. Cindy Hutnik (at right) and learned about the students who are taking
part in the research, I knew it would also be a great story for
Healthcare Careers Express. Which it was.
