Welcome to FreelanceInk

One-stop for writing, editing and publishing

Hi -- I'm Ellen Ashton-Haiste and I'm a writer.

Always have been and always will be. And, along with that, goes editor/project publisher/public relations consultant/publicist. Today, I'm doing all that on a freelance basis, through my company, FreelanceInk.

I graduated from Carleton University School of Journalism and have been a writer and editor with newspapers, magazines, special interest groups and websites, across this great country for -- well let's just say for more than a few decades. Click here to see my resume.

Along the way I've met some wonderful friends, memorable acquaintances and learned many life lessons. And written about all of them. As you peruse my website, I hope you'll learn more about some of these momentous times in my life and about me, my work and my passions. Explore and enjoy!

From my colleagues:

I have worked closely with Ellen on numerous projects of all descriptions for more than 15 years and she never fails to provide well-crafted, thorough, accurate and passionate editorial content every time, and on deadline. She is a superb writer and editor with great imagination and vision.

-- Don Wall, National Editor, Forever Young

I have known Ellen for many years, based originally on a work relationship.

When managing Ellen, I found her to be professional, timely, conscientious, insightful and accurate in all her endeavours. To such an extent that when that relationship ended, I used Ellen for projects at another company as opportunities permitted. I wouldn't hesitate to do so today.

-- Mike Baginski, Publisher , Baxter Travel Media

Ellen is a talented writer and editor with a talent for story-telling, an attention to detail and a sincere empathy for both her subject matter and the audiences to which she writes.

-- Tony Niederer

Senior Director, Marketing & Communications at Communitech in Kitchener, Ont.

Ellen and I have worked together since the early 1990s. It's always a pleasure combining efforts on any project headed by Ellen. She's a true professional, a wonderful writer, and a personable businesswoman.

I hired Ellen to edit my 45-chapter/388-page book about health and prostate -- a one-of-a kind patient-education book entitled "PROSTATE! PROSTATE! PROSTATE! A Problem of Men," and she did a superb job. She accomplished the task to my total satisfaction and to the delight of my readers.

She is a detail-oriented editor who pays attention to the structure and grammar as well as the compactness of the material. She never lost sight of the objective of the job. I would certainly hire her again and recommend her highly.

As a lover of books, I always wanted to write one myself. Ellen has encouraged me to follow my dream, and because of her invaluable editorial skills and insightful guidance, my book is nearing completion. I couldn't have done it without her. She is a rare breed: an editor who listens to the writer.

— David Knatchbull

Ellen has been my editor for three years on the publications Live It! and Healthcare Careers Express. She willingly considers my story suggestions and gives out interesting assignments. The deadlines are always reasonable. My work is carefully edited and always looks great on the page. Ellen is very open, approachable, flexible and easy to work with. She always has time to answer questions. It's always a pleasure to work with her.

Ellen has interviewed me for a number of publications, including Forever Young. She has the talent of bringing out the best in someone when conducting an interview and her writing style is both professional and personal. Ellen has many skills and shares them willingly. She pays attention to detail and follow-up and over the years she has become a friend.”
